Why do I seem to be drifting in my spiritual life?
Dear Friends,
Too many people complain that instead of making progress in their Christian life, they seem to be drifting and they seem to be genuinely confused about this and utterly unable to explain it. If you are feeling that way, today’s devotional is for you! God bless you.
Because of Calvary,
John Janney
Psalm 1:1-3 (ESV)
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
“Sometimes I grow weary when people come sighing to me over their poor progress in the Christian life, wondering why they do not make more headway. When I ask, ‘Do you meditate in God’s Word day and night? Do you really dig into the Bible every day?’ ‘Oh, no, not every day,’ they reply. ‘I am very busy…. I cannot find time to get down to solid Bible study every day.’ ‘Do you read the newspaper every day?’ ‘Y-e-s, morning and evening.’ And no time to be alone each day and listen to God? Thou fool!’ [R. A. Torrey, You and Your Bible, (New York: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1958), p. 92]
