  35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.

“Over the triple doorway of the Cathedral of Milan there are three inscriptions spanning the splendid arches.

“Over one is carved a beautiful wreath of roses, and underneath are the words, ‘All that pleases is but for a moment.’

“Over the other is sculptured a cross, and these are the words beneath: ‘All that troubles is but for a moment.’
