• II Corinthians 9:6-8 (ESV)

  6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

“…A man…became the chairman of his small-town charity. And, looking at the records, he went to a citizen of the town who had a six-figure income and who had never contributed to the town charity. And he called his attention to this fact and said that the record showed that, ‘You have this income that you’ve never contributed.’

“And [the citizen] said, ‘Do your records also show that my brother was wounded in the war, permanently disabled and never able to work again? Do they show that my sister was widowed with several children, and there was no insurance, there was no means of subsistence?’
