Because of Calvary,
Philippians 3:10 English Standard Version (ESV)
10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
“I remember reading, in Fox’s Book of Martyrs, the story of a man of God, who was bound to a stake to die for Christ; there he was, calm and quiet, till his legs had been burned away, and the bystanders looked to see his helpless body drop from the chains. He was black as coal, and not a feature could be discerned; but one who was near was greatly surprised to see that poor black carcass open its mouth, and two words came out of it; and what do you suppose they were? ‘Sweet Jesus!’ And then the martyr fell over the chains, and at last life was gone. Oh, how much of the blessed presence of God that poor saint must have had to be able to say, at the last, when he was charred to a coal, ‘Sweet Jesus!’”
